More about Back to Salem from the author’s perspective

Back to Salem is a very personal story to me. Like my protagonist, Jessie Mercer, while I was writing my first novel, Facades, I started seeing echoes of my fictional story in my own life. It was this experience that gave me the idea of having a precognitive novelist as the protagonist, only Jessie's precognition is revealed as her life starts mimicking one of her bestselling books, including a murder. Can you imagine what it’d be like to write something and see those events unfold in your life?

When I began writing, I tapped a fresh and innovative way to access my creativity. At some point I learned to embrace it, and use it to help develop the plots of my stories, as well as establish a dialog with the Universe.

I do believe there is no coincidence that after I wrote the first draft of this mystery, I learned that one of my characters had the same name, lived in the same town and was brought to trial in the same month and year, as one of the actual accused in the Salem Witch Trials. I expand on this in my post, Character from Salem Witch Trials book actually existedCould it be that the real Rebecca wanted her story to be told and clues to what happened to her are in my suspense novel?

Back to Salem book was originally published in 2001 by The Haworth Press.  There was one thing that bothered me over the years about this version, which is why I changed the ending of the new edition. It's a very slight change, yet very powerful. It has to do with redemption.
