Being guided by metaphysical signs and symbols

Earlier in my life I had heard the expression, “It’s a sign,” but I never knew what that meant until I had a glimpse into the world of being guided by metaphysical signs and symbols.

Let me explain.

At one point in my life, I worked in the tobacco industry as a development chemist, responsible for the product development of cigarettes. I lived just outside of Louisville, Kentucky.  The thought that I was developing cigarettes weighed heavily on my conscience, consequently I was there only one year and relocated to Colorado.  By coming to Colorado I left behind a ten year career in science and for some time I wondered if it was the right thing to do.

After I had been in Colorado about five years I returned to the Louisville area for business and also visited a friend.  My friend and I were driving close to where I once lived while working at the tobacco company.  As we approached the road leading to my old neighborhood I noticed the name of the sign, Preston Highway.  Only one year earlier my son had been born and named Preston in the eleventh hour.  Could it be that the highway I drove every day may have seeded my son’s name?  I hadn’t remembered.

I casually mentioned it to my friend and she made the exit and said we should tour through my old neighborhood.  The area had been recently hit with devastating floods.  Less than six years earlier it was a new subdivision with upscale brick houses on well landscaped half-acre properties.  As we drove through the old hood though, it looked as if twenty five years had passed.  The once manicured lawns and flourishing gardens were destroyed by the recent floods and water lines marred the sides of the houses.

When we turned onto the street I once lived on, something seemed dreadfully wrong.  We pulled up to the address I used to live at, but as I looked at the house I didn’t recognize it.  It wasn’t because it had been weathered by the floods, and the once beautiful flower garden was gone, or the Japanese maple no longer existed, it was something else.  The once brick house was now vinyl-sided with an entirely different façade.

In that moment a former neighbor was out walking her dog.  She recognized me and approached.  “Wasn’t this where I used to live?”  I asked her.  “It doesn’t look like the house.”

“It is where you used to live. But maybe a year after you left a tornado whipped through the neighborhood.  It took out a few houses, including yours.”

I got into the car wondering how the new owners fared, knowing the house didn’t have a basement.

“My God,” my friend said.  “If that’s not a sign you made the right move – going to Colorado, what is?”

“What do you mean, sign?” I asked my friend.

“That Universe is telling you - your move to Colorado was the right thing.”

It took me many years to comprehend what my friend was telling me.  Those occasional little doubts about a career change created a situation where I was led back to learn what could have happened to me had I stayed in Kentucky.

Could it be that the Universe sends us messages all the time? My interest in metaphysical signs and symbols grew.  It was then I set out to crack the code to understand the Universe’s signs.   After many years of experimentation, I have shared my findings in my upcoming book, Lifesigns.

Coming soon.

Are you guided by the signs?  Would love to hear your stories.

I've been guided by so many signs and synchronicities from the Universe, Alex, I wouldn't even know where to begin. (If you,re interested, you can visit my blog under the categories of synchronicities or coincidences). One of my biggest synchronicities was this one: a few years ago, I felt my life was falling apart (my marriage was ending). I prayed and sobbed for God to help me because I couldn't take amy more pain. I then dried my eyes and went to the store. I stopped by the book/magazine section, as I always do, and saw a book called "Bible Verses for Busy Women." Even though I didn't have a lot of money, I decided to buy this book.

When I got to the register, the cashier scanned the book. She then hesitated, with a puzzled look on her face, and scanned it again. It still would not scan. She asked me, "Did you get this book from the book section?" I said, "Yes, why?" and she said "Because this book will not scan and our policy is that if an item won't scan, you get it for free." I had been shopping there for years, and still shop there, and that was the first and last time that an item in my cart would not scan. So...God, the Universe, my angels--WHOMEVER--was telling me that they were with me and everything would be alright. And everything was.

I look forward to reading your upcoming book, "Lifesigns." Many blessings to you!
